In the Naryn region, in the Kochkor district, there is a legend that near Mount Ortok was the residence of Manas the hero.

This was reported by a correspondent from Turmush.

Mount Ortok, according to local residents, stands out among the surrounding mountains and is located in the center of the Kochkor valley.

According to folk tales, it was here that Manas the hero spent time playing ordo.

A farmer from the Kochkor district, Bolot Asanbekov, climbed to the top of Ortok and took several photos.

"There are narrow paths leading to the summit. It is impossible to drive there by car, only on foot. On the mountain, you can see mountain currants and other plants, but mostly it is sparsely covered with greenery. At the same time, at the very top, there is a small plain with diverse vegetation and flowers," he shared.

The highest point of the mountain is located at an altitude of 3000 meters above sea level, while the presumed location of Manas the hero's residence is at an altitude of 2850-2900 meters. I took a picture of a pit, rumored to have been a dungeon dug during the time of Manas. It has a diameter of about 15 meters and a depth of 2.5 meters. There is a suggestion that a meteorite might have fallen here," he added.

According to B. Asanbekov, the mountain is home to marmots, partridges, badgers, and lynxes.

Historian Kabylbek Jumabaev clarified that this pit could accommodate between 6 to 12 people.

"The depth of the pit is about 8 meters, but it was probably deeper in the past. The name Ortok comes from the Kyrgyz words 'oor', 'too', and 'orto', which translate to 'heavy', 'mountain', and 'in the middle'," he noted.
