Naryn State Reserve

Naryn State Reserve is located 50 km east of the city of Naryn on the left bank of the river. The main objects of protection in the reserve are the Schrenk spruce and the population of maral (red deer).

The reserve was established in 1983, covering an area of 36,969 hectares. In addition to the aforementioned representatives of flora and fauna, 20 species of mammals, over 100 species of birds, and about 500 species of plants are protected here. Besides maral, the reserve is home to: snow leopards, lynxes, bears, argali, and rare predatory birds. Among the species listed in the Red Book of the Kyrgyz Republic, the reserve hosts 5 species of mammals, 6 species of birds, and 10 species of insects. The reserve operates a maral nursery, which was established to restore the maral population and to organize future antler farming. Three tourist routes have been developed in the reserve: one-day, two-day, and one-week tours. During the tours, accommodation is organized in yurts.

On the ridge rising above the surroundings of the city of Naryn, there is a very beautiful mountain called Ala-Myshyk (Spotted Cat), named so due to the exceptional diversity of the rocks that make it up. The slopes of the mountain are covered with green patches of Tien Shan spruces. The Alamysyk Cave is located 6 kilometers west of the city of Naryn, 250 meters from the Naryn retransmitter installed on the northern slope of the ridge. Inside the entrance, a round corridor is strewn with animal bones, mostly horse bones. Then the cave's chamber descends deeper into the mountain via several steps. The length of the cave is 162 meters. The depth is 65 meters. The cave has a rather complex configuration—relatively spacious chambers are connected by narrow corridors. The floor is covered with piles of small rock debris and beautiful red-toned onyx deposits. The chamber consists of several small halls carved into the limestone mass. The halls and passages of the cave are adorned with stalactites and stalagmites of unusual bright red hues. The entrance, facing southwest, offers a beautiful panorama of the Naryn valley.
