According to CNN, citing local authorities, among the victims are five foreign climbers and two guides from Nepal. Armed police representative Shailendra Thapa also reported that five more people were injured in the base camp, which is located at an altitude of about 4,900 meters.

Due to adverse weather conditions, rescuers had to reach the site on foot, as an attempt to send a helicopter was unsuccessful—the pilots were forced to turn back. Rescue operations will resume on Tuesday morning, Thapa noted.

Yalung Ri, which stands at 5,600 meters, is considered relatively accessible for climbers, especially for beginners. Nepal is home to eight of the fourteen highest peaks in the world, including Everest. Although spring is the main climbing season, hundreds of foreign tourists also come here in the fall to conquer less high peaks.
