Crown Peak
Peak Korona (4860 m) is located in the Ala-Archa National Park at the summit of the Ak-Sai glacier
It is one of the most picturesque peaks of the Kyrgyz Ala-Too.Korona, in English Korona - is a medium-height peak. Six mountain towers, when viewed from a distance, resemble the majestic crown of a medieval ruler. The towers are so steep that snow does not settle on their summits and walls, which adds a special grandeur to the landscape that unfolds before the tourist. The mountain cliffs reach a height of 600 meters, while the northern slope is 900 meters.
From a geographical point of view, the peak is located in: Eurasia (Asia). From an administrative point of view, the peak is located in: Kyrgyzstan.
The height of the peak is four thousand eight hundred sixty meters, or fifteen thousand nine hundred forty-five feet, and it is popular among climbers from different countries around the world. The best months to plan the ascent are: July, August. A peak of the level of Korona requires a seriously organized ascent. Special equipment and preparation are needed to overcome technically difficult sections, while weather and logistics remain very important issues. It is likely that the organization of intermediate camps will be necessary; however, significant parts of the routes can already be traversed in one or two summit days.
The Southwest and North walls of the peak drop off into cliffs at the foot of the Ak-Sai and Uchitel glaciers.
In the area where the Ak-Sai and Korona glaciers merge, there are two huts on the moraine that accommodate climbers for the ascent of the towers of Peak Korona. Below the Korona tower on the left side, there is also a mountain hut. The North wall of Peak Korona reveals its beauty when approaching the "Ratsheka" campsite.
From here, the steepness of the rocky bastions is clearly visible. The dominant position among the bastions is occupied by the spur of the first tower of Korona. Its height is 4240 m. Snow does not settle on the summit of the wall, and the wall remains clean.
