According to the agency, 27,157 citizens aged 16 and older participated in the competition. Each participant had the opportunity to propose one name, resulting in a total of 10,460 unique options, taking into account various forms of writing.
The competition commission reviewed the 100 most popular names. The name "Balkhash" was suggested by 882 participants and took first place in the final voting, making it the winner.
It is worth noting that in August, the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, proposed holding a competition for the best name for the nuclear power plant during a meeting with winners of international student olympiads.
The construction of the first nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan will be carried out by the company "Rosatom."
