The 1939 comic was found in 2024 under old newspapers in a cardboard box covered in dust. An appraisal rated its condition at 9 out of 10, surpassing the previous record of 8.5.
Previously, the title of the most expensive comic sold at auction belonged to a 1938 issue featuring Superman's debut, which sold for a full $3 million less.
