The watch of a drowned passenger of the Titanic sold at auction for $2.3 million

The watch, which stopped at 2:20 AM on April 15, 1912, was adorned with his initials and the date of his 43rd birthday. This information was provided by the auction house Henry Aldridge & Son.

Also at the auction was a letter from Ida Strauss addressed to a certain Mrs. Berbridge, written on Titanic letterhead.
In the letter, Mrs. Strauss described the ship, noting its size and magnificence: “What a ship! Huge and beautifully equipped. The cabins are tastefully decorated and incredibly luxurious.” The buyer paid $131,000 for this letter.

Interestingly, the recent tragedy involving the submersible Titan, which sank in 2023, is also connected to the Strauss family. The wife of Stockton Rush, the creator of the sunken device, is the great-great-granddaughter of Isidor and Ida Strauss.
