"Wikipedia" was founded on January 15, 2001, by Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger, and this month it celebrates its 25th anniversary. Since its launch, this resource has evolved from a modest 100 articles to a vast knowledge base containing over 65 million entries, which are viewed nearly 15 billion times each month.

Currently, the management of "Wikipedia" is carried out by the Wikimedia Foundation, which was established in 2003. In honor of the anniversary, the foundation presented a documentary mini-series featuring eight editors from different corners of the world working on "Wikipedia."

Last fall, "Wikimedia" announced a strategy aimed at supporting "Wikipedia" in the face of the growing role of artificial intelligence, despite a noticeable decline in traffic.

Additionally, the foundation launched a digital "time capsule," which includes audio recordings of Jimmy Wales himself sharing important events from the history of "Wikipedia."

The foundation also compiled a ranking of the 25 most popular topics on the platform throughout its history. The top five included queries related to famous personalities, such as lists of celebrity deaths, information about the USA, President Donald Trump, Queen Elizabeth II, and India.
