Karakol, January 19 — local residents gathered to collect holy water from the Karakol River.

In the morning, the clergy of the Holy Trinity Church conducted a water blessing ceremony, after which townspeople and guests began to fill their containers, wishing peace and well-being for their loved ones.

“On Epiphany, people gather water at night and early in the morning and perform the bathing ritual. We believe in its healing properties. It can be stored for a whole year without spoiling. I used to always dive into the cold water, but now my health doesn’t allow it. I congratulate everyone on the holiday,” noted Sergey Ustimov.

This event, filled with spiritual significance, has become part of a tradition held annually.

“Today's holy water has a special meaning for us. We treat it the same way Muslims treat the holy water from Mecca. We take care of it primarily for the children. When they are sick or have trouble sleeping, we wash them with this water and give them a little to drink — it helps,” summarized resident Vladimir Andrey.
