The pavilion was reconstructed in the 1980s, and the artistic paintings on its walls and dome were added later. The restoration of these paintings is being handled by the talented family duo of artists Valery and Alisa Katrevich.
Alisa spoke about the restoration process: "We are working on restoring the ornamental belt that suffered the most from prolonged disuse. It was important for us to choose the exact colors that our predecessor used in 1997 to maintain authenticity and avoid the effect of a modern replica. We strive for it to seem as if we have carefully restored everything and disappeared."
The Philosophy of the Dome: "Calmness, Not Luxury"
For the artists, it was extremely important to preserve not only the images but also the atmosphere of this place. "All the colors here are soft and unobtrusive. It's not about wealth, but about calmness and harmony. I always ask visitors: 'How do you feel here?' And they respond that they feel tranquility. Traditional Kyrgyz ornaments and the famous sculpture 'Girl with Fruits' by Olga Manuilova in the center of the rotunda create a unique aura," Valery noted. He also added: "I have watched the condition of the pavilion with sadness. This location is the zero kilometer, and I would like tourists and locals to enjoy this place. I see it as a gift to the city." Before the start of the paintings, all communications were completely updated, including water supply, sewage, and electricity, as well as the restoration of water supply for the fountains and the installation of a new ventilation system.
It is worth noting that the project is financed by a private investor.
Expectations for the Renovated Pavilion
The concept of the new "Ak-Suu" envisions the creation of a family space. There will be no alcohol, but beloved ice cream and refreshing drinks will return."We will offer carbonated waters and interesting drinks, as well as a children's playground and a workout area. It will be a family café where we will try to provide the city residents with what they are missing," shared the founder of the foundation.
