Bishkek's grocery basket as of January 31. What has increased the most in price
This week in Bishkek, there has been an increase in prices for potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, sugar, and milk. At the same time, prices for bread, onions, cabbage, and bananas have decreased.

Thus, the total cost of the minimum set of products has increased by 86 soms, amounting to 7,018 soms.

Our editorial team monitors prices weekly in one supermarket for the same set of products. Below is detailed information about which items were included in our basket and the reasons for their selection.

It should be noted that prices in the market and stores may vary, and sometimes products are available at discounted prices in stores.

Since the beginning of our monitoring, which started in late October 2018, the cost of the grocery basket has increased by 3,748 soms. Since the beginning of this year, there has been an increase of 295 soms, and compared to the same period in 2025, an increase of 962 soms.

The lowest cost in our basket is for bread. The prices of the basket are significantly influenced by fresh vegetables and fruits, and their fluctuations primarily determine the total cost.

In 2025, the cost of the grocery basket increased by 686 soms. The lowest fixed cost was recorded on October 18 — 5,791 soms, and the highest on December 6, amounting to 6,927 soms.

The nutritional standards for the population of the Kyrgyz Republic were established by the government back in 2009. According to the data, each citizen should consume nine types of products per month.

This standard includes: 9 kilograms of bread products, 5 kilograms of meat, 8.2 kilograms of potatoes, 9 kilograms of vegetables, 10 kilograms of fruits and berries, 2 kilograms of sugar, 17 liters of milk, 1 liter of vegetable oil, 4 eggs, 100 grams of fish and fish products, as well as 200 grams of tea.

Based on the established minimum norm, we calculated the cost of the grocery basket for a family of four, based on prices in one of the supermarkets in Bishkek. In recent years, many city residents increasingly prefer to shop in large stores.

It should be noted that our calculations are approximate and based on the standards approved by the government. Not all families have the same food needs. Some may not eat meat, while others may not prefer sugar. Therefore, it is not advisable to perceive our basket as an absolute truth — it is more of a social experiment from 24.kg.

Grain products include both bread and pasta and cereals. Our family is considered average, so it prefers apples and bananas among fruits, and onions, carrots, peppers, cabbage, cucumbers, and tomatoes among vegetables. We do not include excess items in the basket — only the essentials.
