The State Penitentiary Service of Kyrgyzstan (GSIN) has proposed new daily nutrition standards for convicts and those in detention centers. This project is currently undergoing a public discussion phase.

The developers of the document explained that its main task is to organize and improve the daily ration standards, as well as to align them with the presidential decree concerning issues of the penal enforcement system, which was issued on February 3, 2025.

In the creation of the new regulation, Associate Professor of the Department of Hygiene Disciplines at the Issykkul State Medical Academy, Candidate of Medical Sciences Feruza Kochkorova has been involved.

The project envisions a reduction in the consumption norms of products such as bread, flour, starch, fish, and trans fats, which aligns with the recommendations of the World Health Organization.

According to GSIN, this measure is aimed at reducing the risks of developing diseases, including diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, strokes, and cancer.

At the same time, the consumption norms for pasta, eggs, milk, oil, and poultry meat are being increased, which should help prevent infectious diseases and ensure the intake of essential nutrients.

For example, the daily norm of bread made from first-grade wheat flour will be reduced from 500 grams to 250 grams, while the meat norm per person will increase from 80 to 90 grams.

There are also plans to reduce the salt norm per person from 20 grams to 5 grams.
