The new nutrition standards will help reduce the risk of diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, stroke, and cancer.
The State Service for Execution of Sentences has presented a draft of proposed changes to the nutrition standards for convicts in colonies and detention centers. This project has been put forward for public discussion.
The development of the document was carried out in accordance with the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO). It includes a reduction in the consumption of bread, flour, starch, fish, and trans fats such as margarine and vegetable oils. This change aims to reduce the risks of developing diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, stroke, and cancer.
Instead, the draft proposes to increase the consumption of pasta, eggs, milk, butter, vegetables, and even confectionery products.
According to the data from the State Service for Execution of Sentences, such a dietary adjustment could lead to savings of about 38 million 941 thousand soms annually.
