At the World Government Summit in Dubai, Bakyt Torobaev, who holds the position of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry, discussed the impacts of climate change on Lake Issyk-Kul. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Water Resources.
During his speech, he emphasized that Issyk-Kul represents a "unique ecosystem of regional significance," as well as an important socio-economic and natural resource for Kyrgyzstan.
However, the lake is facing serious climate-related challenges in recent decades. The minister noted that since the mid-19th century, the water level in the lake has decreased by almost 14 meters, which corresponds to a reduction in water volume of approximately 85 billion cubic meters.
The number of rivers flowing into the lake has also significantly decreased, which is related to glacier melting, changes in the hydrological regime, and increased water consumption.

According to Torobaev, Kyrgyzstan views the preservation of Issyk-Kul as an important aspect of the global climate and water agenda. He emphasized the need to transition from short-term solutions to more sustainable, scientifically grounded, and investment-oriented approaches.
In conclusion of his speech, the minister called for the expansion of international partnerships in sustainable water resource management, the integration of climate and water issues, as well as support for joint projects aimed at protecting unique natural sites.
