New rules for working with digital data proposed in the Kyrgyz Republic

A draft law has been prepared in the Kyrgyz Republic that establishes the concept of digital evidence and sets rules for their collection, recording, storage, and use within the framework of criminal proceedings. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Justice.

This project proposes amendments to the Criminal Code, the Criminal Procedure Code, and the Code of Offenses. Special attention is paid to the protection of citizens' rights, including procedural guarantees for working with digital data related to the confidentiality of correspondence, personal data, and private life, as well as mechanisms for judicial oversight.

In addition, the draft law updates outdated terminology, aligning it with the country's Digital Code. The document also provides for the implementation of legal mechanisms for working with virtual assets, which are increasingly becoming targets of crimes.

It is expected that the adoption of this document will create a modern legal framework for combating cybercrime, establish clear rules for handling digital data, and ensure uniformity in law enforcement. This should enhance the protection of citizens' rights and improve the effectiveness of investigations into crimes committed using the internet, digital services, and telecommunications networks.
