According to the president of the National Association of Builders (NOSTROY), Anton Glushkov, the share of foreign workers at construction sites in Russia has decreased to 20 percent. This is related to changes in demand and the tightening of migration legislation.

The expert pointed out two main factors: the first is the tightening of migration rules, and the second is the decrease in the need for foreign workers. Despite the presence of foreign specialists at construction sites, their number varies by region: there are fewer in Siberia and more in the central part of Russia. Currently, about 80 percent of the workforce at construction sites consists of Russian citizens, whereas this figure was previously around 70 percent.

Glushkov noted that most foreign workers employed at construction sites come from Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. At the same time, there is a trend towards an increase in the number of workers from India.

“In recent years, there has been a shift towards Uzbekistan, while the number of Tajik workers in construction has decreased. However, new markets, such as India and Pakistan, are starting to actively enter this sector, especially in agriculture and light industry, as well as in construction,” he added.
