The studio Universal Pictures has announced plans to reboot the "Mummy" franchise. Currently, negotiations are underway with actors Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz about returning to their roles. This information was published by The Hollywood Reporter.

If the parties reach an agreement, Fraser and Weisz will reunite on screen as their characters from the original trilogy created by Stephen Sommers.

Although Universal has not yet revealed the release date or title of the new film, fans have already dubbed it "Mummy 4," anticipating a continuation of the story that began in 1999.

Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz first appeared in the first installment released in 1999, and then reprised their roles in the sequel "The Mummy Returns" in 2001. Weisz did not participate in the third film, "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor" (2008), making her potential return particularly significant for fans.

The new film will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, with the script written by David Koepp. The producers will be Sean Daniel, William Sherak, James Vanderbilt, and Paul Nainstein.

The "Mummy" franchise is a landmark creation of Universal Pictures in the adventure horror genre, based on myths about the resurrection of ancient Egyptian priests. The plot revolves around a group of archaeologists who awaken a mummy that brings with it a deadly curse. The series includes the classic 1932 film, the successful trilogy with Brendan Fraser (1999-2008), and a remake released in 2017.
