Let's finish it. The Bishkek City Hall will spend 12 million soms on the demolition of trolleybus poles

And what happened to the expensive wires?

In Bishkek, the process of dismantling trolleybus poles has begun, as reported by the municipal enterprise "Bishkek City Transport." A total of 12 million 46 thousand soms has been allocated for these works, as noted by Bermet Borubaeva, one of the founders of the initiative group #BishkekSmog.

According to the activist, the financial management of the capital previously claimed that the local budget would not incur expenses when transferring 100 trolleybuses to other regions. However, the dismantling of the infrastructure is being financed from municipal funds.

At the same time, the fate of the dismantled structures, particularly the expensive electrical wires, remains an open question. As of mid-2024, the total length of contact lines in Bishkek was 210 km. The cost of laying one kilometer of trolleybus contact network ranges from 170 to 400 thousand dollars, depending on the region and conditions, which is related to the high price of copper.

It is also worth noting that the city hall has decided to eliminate trolleybuses as a mode of public transport in the capital, but the new General Plan includes the construction of tram lines.
