In Kyrgyzstan, the cultivation of industrial hemp may be permitted. This was reported by Deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh Dastan Bekeshev in a message on his Telegram channel.

“The permission to cultivate industrial hemp and some other plants could be introduced, but only under strict state control. This would provide us with the opportunity to produce medications containing narcotic substances that are necessary for medical purposes. This issue is indeed important and requires a serious approach, as many people suffer from severe pain and need such means,” Bekeshev noted.

According to current legislation, the cultivation of medicinal plants on agricultural land in the country is prohibited. According to the Ministry of Water Management and Agriculture, this creates legal obstacles for the development of this sector.

The agency proposes to expand the list of medicinal plants to include valerian, calendula, sage, saffron, ferula, aconite, arnebia, rhodiola rosea, licorice, sea buckthorn, rosehip, barberry, thyme, chamomile, and St. John's wort.
