“If we start replacing everything, we will blow up the city”
At a meeting of the Bishkek City Committee, the First Deputy Mayor Mirlan Baigonchokov stated that the Bishkek City Hall does not have the resources for a large-scale replacement of utility systems.
When the official was asked about the need to replace heating networks, water supply systems, and sewage lines, he explained that the municipal authorities are operating within the city budget and available resources.
According to Baigonchokov, “if we start replacing everything, we will blow up the city.”
Thus, repair work will be carried out in stages as part of a medium-term plan.
Nevertheless, residential and commercial construction is actively ongoing in the city, raising questions among citizens about the sustainability of the existing infrastructure, thereby causing concern.
