A Man Dictated a Code via WhatsApp and Lost Almost 2 Million Som with His Bank Card

In the Chui region, police officers arrested a man suspected of fraudulent activities involving bank cards, sources in the regional Department of Internal Affairs reported.

According to law enforcement information, on February 5 at 13:21, a 42-year-old man, K.A., contacted the police department of the Issyk-Ata district, stating that he received a call via WhatsApp from unknown individuals who asked him to dictate a four-digit code. Shortly after this, 1,999,006 soms were stolen from his electronic wallet at "Eldik Bank."

Based on this incident, a criminal case was initiated under Article 209 "Fraud" of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.

As a result of operational measures, police officers were able to identify the suspect — T.E., born in 1984.

According to the investigation, he was purchasing bank cards from people through Telegram, claiming that he was involved in cryptocurrency work. It was revealed that the stolen funds were transferred to one of these cards, which T.E. had bought from third parties. The card belonged to another person and was used for cash withdrawals and further transfers.

The suspect was detained and placed in a temporary detention facility in accordance with Article 96 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The investigation continues to work on establishing all the details of the case and the possible involvement of other individuals. The investigation is ongoing.
