At the meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, which took place today, a proposal was voiced to allow citizens of Kyrgyzstan to cultivate 15 types of medicinal herbs. This became part of the discussion on a draft law concerning amendments to several legislative acts, including the laws "On the Protection and Use of Plant Life" and "On the Development of Agriculture."

The First Deputy Minister of Water Management and Agriculture, Zhanibek Kerimaliev, specified that the list of plants includes species such as valerian, calendula, sage, saffron, ferula, aconite, arnebia, rhodiola rosea, licorice, sea buckthorn, rosehip, barberry, thyme, chamomile, and St. John's wort.

He also provided an example of the successful cultivation of ferula, which is in high demand. According to him, the price for this plant ranges from $200 to $500 per kilogram, making it profitable. In particular, in the Batken region, three plots are already using drip irrigation for this plant.

Deputy Zhyldyz Sadyrbaeva suggested expanding the list of plants permitted for cultivation, noting that 15 species is too narrow a selection.

Kamila Talieva, her colleague, raised the issue of including aconite in the list. "This is a poisonous plant, and it should not be allowed for home cultivation. Improper use can lead to poisoning, which is absolutely unacceptable. Special regulation is required here," she emphasized.
