According to a new report prepared with the assistance of the UN, more than one billion people worldwide, which accounts for nearly 25% of the adult population, express concerns about the loss of land and housing rights in the next five years.

According to the authors of the study, there are many unresolved issues in the field of land rights. Currently, only 35% of land in the world has formal documentation confirming ownership, possession, or use rights.

The report also indicates that states control more than 64% of all land on the planet. This figure includes territories that are used traditionally but do not have documented ownership rights.

Individuals, groups, and companies own just over a quarter of all land. In particular, 18% of land, equivalent to 2.4 billion hectares, is in private hands. On agricultural land, which constitutes about 37% of the total land area, the top 10% of landowners cultivate nearly 90% of all arable land, as stated in the report.

The ownership status of 10% of land remains unknown. Additionally, data shows that in most countries, women are less protected in terms of land ownership compared to men, both in the context of residence and agricultural activities.
