According to his information, the graph illustrates the dynamics of the lake's water level decline since 1926, when regular measurements began.
“Since then, the water level has decreased by five meters by 1996, after which a slow rise began. About five thousand years ago, the lake level was 100 meters lower than it is today,” noted Abdrakhmatov.
He expressed the opinion that the water level in Issyk-Kul will fluctuate around the average value.

Earlier, Ulan Primov, a member of parliament, expressed concern about the state of Lake Issyk-Kul, calling it the jewel of the country.
According to him, the water level in the lake continues to decrease every year.
“According to media reports, while 80 rivers used to flow into Issyk-Kul, now their number has decreased to about 35. This raises serious concerns. Immediate measures must be taken to protect and preserve Lake Issyk-Kul and to create a separate institution for these purposes. If action is not taken now, Kyrgyzstan may face an ecological disaster,” he added.
