The capital has presented an initiative for the automation of parking with rates up to 50 soms per hour.
The authorities of Bishkek are resuming discussions on the idea of implementing paid parking spaces. A draft resolution concerning the regulation of municipal parking lots and spaces has been submitted for consideration by the Bishkek City Council.
The proposed measures aim to eradicate spontaneous parking and introduce an automated system for payment collection.
A key element of this project is a strict zoning system. In the city center, designated as the "red zone," the cost of parking per hour will be 50 soms, which is expected to help reduce the load on the most congested streets. For the "blue zone" and other areas, the rates will be 40 and 30 soms respectively, which should improve parking organization in residential and business areas. A complete transition to digital payment methods is also planned, excluding manual collection of funds.
Car owners who do not wish to comply with the new rules face fines ranging from 1,000 to 5,000 soms.
