The ex-husband of a Kyrgyz woman demands money for consent to take the child abroad

A deputy raised the issue of parents being blackmailed when obtaining consent for their children's travel.

At a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, Deputy Dastan Bekeshev drew attention to cases where ex-spouses demand financial or housing conditions in exchange for consent to take a child abroad.

This statement was made during the discussion of a bill concerning amendments to the law "On External Migration."

The deputy emphasized that even having a passport does not allow a child to leave the country without the approval of the other parent.

He noted that some parents, who do not participate in their children's lives, begin to use this right for their own interests.

"A citizen of Kyrgyzstan contacted me, who lives in Europe with her child. For seven years, she has been unable to return to her homeland with him, as her ex-husband threatens that if they come, he will refuse to give consent for their return and demands either an apartment or money for it," Bekeshev reported.

Dastan Bekeshev believes that in situations where one parent does not pay alimony and does not participate in raising the child, the procedure for leaving should be simplified by removing the requirement for obtaining their consent.

Additionally, the deputy noted that sometimes one of the parents simply disappears, making it impossible to locate them.
