In Kyrgyzstan, the Day of Ak Kalpak is celebrated: a symbol of the nation under the protection of law and UNESCO

Festive events dedicated to the ak kalpak are taking place throughout the country

Today, March 5, is celebrated as the Day of Ak Kalpak in Kyrgyzstan. This holiday, which holds significant importance for the cultural identity of the people, aims to strengthen respect for historical traditions and unite citizens from all corners of the country.

The idea of creating the holiday was proposed in 2011 by director Rysbek Jabirov. In 2016, this day became an official state holiday. A significant step in the protection of the ak kalpak was the adoption of a special law in 2019, which strictly regulates its use and prohibits disrespectful treatment, such as using it as a bath accessory.

In 2019, the importance of the tradition of making and wearing the ak kalpak was also recognized when it was included in the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage. This white felt headdress, whose shape resembles the snow-covered peaks of the Tien Shan mountains, received the status of a world heritage.

In honor of the holiday, various educational and ceremonial events are organized across the country. For example, a youth forum titled "Ak Kalpak — Kyrgyz Heritage" will take place at the Bishkek State University named after K. Karasaev.
