The commission made a unanimous decision
The National Commission of the Kyrgyz Republic for UNESCO has announced that traditional knowledge of preparing maxym has been included in the representative list of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity under the auspices of UNESCO.
This decision was made unanimously at the XX session of UNESCO held on December 10 in New Delhi.
According to UNESCO information, there are currently 812 elements from 153 countries in the international lists of intangible heritage. Kyrgyzstan is represented by 16 items, including cultural achievements such as the epic trilogy "Manas, Semetey, Seytek," the art of making ala-kiyiz and shyrdak, as well as nomadic games, including kok boru.
Maxym is a traditional non-alcoholic drink known for its nutritional properties and refreshing taste. It is made from roasted grains (barley, wheat, and corn) and water, undergoing natural fermentation, which gives it a slight sourness and a bread-like aroma, perfectly quenching thirst and hunger.
