In Kyrgyzstan, changes to the legislation regarding mandatory insurance for residential buildings are being discussed. The Deputy Chairman of the State Insurance Organization, Baktygul Abdyjaliev, announced this on the air of "Birinchi Radio," noting that the draft law is currently at the stage of the second reading in the Jogorku Kenesh.

One of the main innovations will be the lowering of the earthquake magnitude threshold at which an insured event occurs. Previously, payments were made for earthquakes with a magnitude of 6 or higher, but now it is proposed to lower this threshold to 5.

In addition, changes are planned regarding the criteria for wind speed. Previously, an insured event was recorded for wind gusts of 25 meters per second or more, but now it is proposed to lower this to 20 meters per second.

Changes will also affect the conditions for recognizing an insured event related to hail. The new version of the law proposes to abandon the criterion for the minimum size of hailstones, which was previously set at 2 centimeters. If hail damages a residential building, a commission will be created to assess the damage and make a decision on recognizing the event as an insured case.
