At a briefing, psychiatrist Boris Li, representing Family Medicine Center No. 6, shared recommendations for maintaining mental health.

“Unfortunately, it is not always possible to prevent the development of mental disorders. We cannot directly change our biology without the intervention of doctors and medications. Social issues such as unemployment, poverty, or domestic violence are also beyond our control and exacerbate psychological disorders, creating a vicious cycle,” the specialist stated.

He urged people to reduce the time spent on doomscrolling.

Doomscrolling, or doom surfing, refers to the endless scrolling through social media news feeds in search of negative, anxious, or depressing information.

According to Boris Li, “according to a report by the World Health Organization published in 2025, negative news on social media plays a significant role in the emergence of mental disorders. Although we cannot control political instability in other countries or in the world, we still suffer from what we read,” he added.

The doctor also noted that there is a method of behavioral activation that can have a positive impact on mental health. “It is incorrect to think that simply working or engaging in something will help get rid of depression. However, active leisure, rekindling hobbies, walking, and socializing can have a therapeutic effect,” he explained.
