MoveGreen: In Bishkek and Osh, air pollution is 11-15 times above the norm

Experts stated that building walls do not protect against poisoned air

The annual analytical report prepared by the public organization MoveGreen, which conducts independent air quality monitoring, covers the period from December 2024 to November 2025.

This document presents a deep analysis of the concentration of fine particulate matter PM2.5 in Bishkek and Osh, as well as recommendations for improving the environmental situation in these cities.

According to the report, the level of air pollution shows a pronounced seasonality and significantly increases during the winter heating period. Bishkek recorded about 120 days with exceedances of established norms, with the maximum value noted on December 24, 2024, when the pollution level exceeded the norm by more than 11 times. In Osh, exceedances were recorded for 159 days. Unlike the capital, pollution is observed throughout the year here, with the annual average concentration being about 74 µg/m³, which is almost 5 times higher than the norms set by the government and 15 times higher than the recommendations of the World Health Organization.

The study also showed that even building walls are not able to fully protect against street smog during periods of high concentration. Inside buildings, 58 days were recorded with indicators exceeding permissible norms.

To address this issue, MoveGreen recommends developing green energy, implementing environmentally friendly public transport, increasing urban greenery, and creating an open air quality monitoring system.
