In connection with the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, Pakistan and Afghanistan have reached an agreement for a temporary ceasefire. This was reported by the Pakistani newspaper Dawn.

The Minister of Information of Pakistan, Attaullah Tarar, stated that this decision was made at the initiative of Islamabad and supported by several Muslim countries.

“In connection with the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr, the authorities of Pakistan have decided on a temporary pause in Operation 'Ghazab lil-Haq' against terrorists and their infrastructure on Afghan territory,” he added.

The ceasefire will be in effect from March 19 to March 24 inclusive, from midnight to midnight.

At the same time, Pakistani authorities emphasized that in the event of any attacks from Afghanistan, military actions will be resumed immediately.

Afghan authorities also confirmed their readiness to suspend hostilities. A representative of the Taliban movement, Zabihullah Mujahid, noted that this decision was made considering the requests of other Muslim countries.

It is worth reminding that the escalation of the conflict between the two countries began on February 22, when Pakistan carried out strikes on the positions of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan group. In response, Taliban forces intensified their actions in the border areas of Pakistan.
