Following these events, the defense filed a petition for a review of the case due to new circumstances. As a result, the Supreme Court decided to return the case for reconsideration to the district court.

International human rights organizations and representatives of the media community had previously called for a review of the sentence for the journalist.

Mahabat Tajibek kyzy is a well-known journalist and the head of the Temirov LIVE project, as well as the wife of investigative journalist Bolot Temirov.
