Today, the Supreme Court of the Kyrgyz Republic postponed the hearing in the case of journalist Mahabat Tajibek kyzy, as reported by 24.kg through the court's press service.

The reason for the postponement was the abundance of materials requiring detailed examination. The new date for the hearing has been set for March 3.

Mahabat Tajibek kyzy was sentenced to six years in prison on charges of "calling for mass riots." Despite being a mother of a minor child, she was denied a deferral of her sentence.

On January 16, 2024, mass arrests occurred in Kyrgyzstan; 11 people associated with the projects Temirov LIVE and "Ayt, Ayt dese" were arrested. Journalists were accused of "calling for mass riots" in connection with their professional activities.

On October 10, 2024, the Lenin District Court of Bishkek sentenced Mahabat Tajibek kyzy, the head of Temirov LIVE, to six years in prison. On December 18, 2024, the Bishkek City Court upheld this sentence, and on February 25, 2025, the Supreme Court confirmed it.

The UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention confirmed that Kyrgyzstan violated seven articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and six articles of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, stating that the imprisonment of Mahabat Tajibek kyzy was a result of her lawful exercise of freedom of expression and journalistic activity, as well as investigations into corruption.

In light of the findings of the UN Working Group, Mahabat Tajibek kyzy's lawyer filed a petition with the Supreme Court for a review of the case based on new circumstances. Activists called on international human rights organizations, journalists, and media representatives to attend the hearing as observers.
