Today, the court released the journalist on a travel restriction. However, the defense expressed dissatisfaction with the court's decision on other matters.
“We are not satisfied with the court's refusal to terminate the case. The court did not support our request for a complete closure of the proceedings,” the lawyer stated.
Regarding the further actions of the defense, the lawyer clarified that at the hearing on April 7, they will not request the termination of the case at this stage again. The judicial process will move on to the examination of the merits.
It is worth recalling that on October 10, 2024, the Lenin District Court sentenced the journalist to six years in prison. Later, the Bishkek City Court upheld this decision, and the Supreme Court confirmed it in February 2025.
After that, the defense filed a petition for a review of the case based on newly discovered circumstances. The Supreme Court of the Kyrgyz Republic sent the case for a new hearing in the district court.
Earlier, several international human rights organizations and representatives of media communities called for a review of the sentence of Mahabat Tajibek kyzy.
Mahabat Tajibek kyzy is a journalist and the head of the Temirov LIVE project, as well as the wife of the well-known investigative journalist Bolot Temirov. Together, they conducted anti-corruption investigations that caused significant public resonance. Bolot Temirov was previously expelled from Kyrgyzstan and stripped of his citizenship.
