According to the press service, the new lighting system is designed to ensure uniform visibility without "blind spots" during nighttime. The streetlights will be equipped with sensors that respond to the movement of pedestrians and vehicles, automatically increasing the level of illumination upon their detection.
The implementation of this technology will significantly reduce electricity consumption—by up to 86 percent.
Additionally, the new equipment includes the installation of cameras and analytical systems capable of recording violations, tracking vehicles, including stolen and unregistered cars, and promptly transmitting information to the relevant authorities. The monitoring functions will include detecting traffic accidents and violations of traffic rules, which should enhance safety and reduce congestion on the roads.
The cost of one 'smart' streetlight is $67,000.
Mayor Aibek Junushaliev noted that before launching the project, it is necessary to conduct an assessment of its economic feasibility and determine funding sources.
If the project is implemented, Bishkek will become the first city in Central Asia with such a lighting system.
