Lack of drivers: about 400 buses in Bishkek are idle

Passengers are demanding an increase in the number of buses, while drivers need replacements to avoid 16-hour shifts.

In Bishkek, about 400 buses are not operational and are not serving routes due to a lack of drivers. This information was announced during the "Shaarkana" event organized by the initiative group "Urban Hub Bishkek".

At the meeting, experts, journalists, and city residents attempted to analyze the transportation system based on factual data and maps.

As a result of the study, it was established that currently in Bishkek there are:

- 1,567 municipal buses and electric buses;

- 130 private buses;

- about 320 minivans.

The fleet is being gradually updated. The best vehicles were identified as 120 electric buses purchased last year, as well as buses of the Chinese brand "Yutong" and Turkish models "Isuzu".

Meanwhile, social media users are actively discussing the lack of public transport and are calling for the launch of new routes and an extension of operating hours, as most lines remain empty after 9:00 PM. Drivers, for their part, express dissatisfaction due to the need to work 12-16 hours without replacements.

The city administration, in turn, plans to "optimize" the operation of public transport in the city center, where minivans and trolleybuses have already been removed.
