Kyrgyz Special Services Continue the Fight Against the Opposition
The investigation into the opposition conspiracy to overthrow the government continues in Kyrgyzstan. Another political figure who appeared in a compromising recording, Duulatbek Turdunaliev, has been declared wanted.
To eliminate any possibility of a repeat of the events of 2005 and 2010, leaders of the opposition movement "El Uunu," Bektur Asanov and Kubanychbek Kadyrbekov, as well as Ernest Karybekov, whose identity has been confirmed by the GKNB, have been remanded in custody in the GKNB detention center for two months by court decision. A criminal case has been initiated against the arrested individuals under Article 295 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic ("Preparation for the violent seizure of power or violent retention of power"), which carries a penalty of 12 to 20 years in prison. Their supporter and participant in the recording, Duulatbek Turdunaliev, has been declared wanted. Additionally, over the weekend, an audio recording surfaced online of a meeting allegedly held on March 10 under the leadership of Ernest Karybekov, where the creation of a government in the event of a power takeover was discussed. According to the recording, the meeting included Dastan Sarygulov, Ernest Karybekov, Turgan Nurmatov, a certain "Kamchy," and an unidentified person named Yrgalay. Meanwhile, the GKNB has refrained from commenting on or legally assessing this recording, and a decision on verifying its authenticity will be made by the end of Monday, March 28.
The opposition members themselves deny the accusations of attempting to overthrow the state system.
- These were representatives of the secretariat of the people's kurultai communicating. About a month ago, we discussed the candidates for positions in the government. But that does not mean we intend to seize power and install our people. That's not the context. If the current government resigns, we want to propose a cabinet composition to the Jogorku Kenesh on behalf of the representatives of the kurultai. Right now, it is said that the government is ineffective. Therefore, this question arose, - Dastan Sarygulov, a public figure, former state secretary of the Kyrgyz Republic, and one of the assistants to the kurultai organizers, responded to a question from Sputnik.
