The majority of deputies who left their posts through "self-dissolution" are eager to return
Some deputies who vacated their seats through self-dissolution are now running for candidacy again and intend to reclaim their positions in the Jogorku Kenesh. However, it is worth noting that the previous composition of the parliament was not popular among the people. This is related to the fulfillment of pre-election promises, numerous scandals, and the adoption of laws that did not meet the interests of ordinary citizens.
The overall interest of Kyrgyzstanis in the upcoming elections has noticeably decreased. This is reflected in the low activity of citizens and a lack of interest in pre-election events. Despite the promises made by candidates, meetings with them attract few spectators, and society shows low interest even in events such as the situation with Temirlan Sultanbekov and Kadyir Atambaev, as well as in news about vote-buying reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Political scientist Marlis uulu Edil commented on the likelihood of old faces returning in the next convocation, despite the criticism of the deputies' work and the overall pre-election atmosphere.
“Some deputies from the previous composition will indeed return. In general, the Jogorku Kenesh has faced criticism. But who in Kyrgyzstan remembers all the deputies of past convocations? There are not many well-known faces — a few active ones, a few 'hype' ones. The rest remained unnoticed. And now they are running for elections again. Many voters are surprised that these were deputies of the previous convocation,” the expert noted.
It should be taken into account that many elected representatives entered parliament through party lists.
“Now elections are held by districts. Therefore, former deputies are running again and have chances to succeed. The election mechanism in our country has been refined over many years and remains largely unchanged. Agitators are usually people working for money, hired managers, rather than those who genuinely support the deputies' ideas. Their task is to attract voters' votes,” Marlis uulu Edil added.
In his opinion, the elections to the Jogorku Kenesh, scheduled for November 30, will be quiet.
“Although these are the first experimental elections, no serious violations are observed, and state structures will not participate in the agitation. Therefore, they are likely to proceed quietly and calmly,” he concluded.
We remind you that elections to the Jogorku Kenesh in single-mandate districts are planned for November 30.
