Matkerimov replaced Manas Toktomuratov, who held this position since February 2025.
Previously, Aibek Matkerimov was a deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh of the VII convocation. In his parliamentary activities, he paid attention to both local and national issues.
He was known for supporting the draft law on information manipulation in its original version and protested against the proposed amendments from Janar Akayev and other colleagues. He also became one of the authors of the controversial law concerning NGOs.
Among his legislative initiatives, one can highlight the draft law on gender equality aimed at improving the representation of women in government bodies. Additionally, he participated in the development of draft laws on the establishment of an ombudsman institution, the prohibition of pornographic content on the internet, and the restriction of mobile phone use in educational institutions. One of his notable ideas is the establishment of Father's Day in Kyrgyzstan.
