
Nurak Abdrakhmanov (born 1947) is a renowned professional singer and musician, honored artist of the Kyrgyz Republic. He was born in the village of Togolok Moldo in the Ak-Tala district of Naryn region; his father was a komuz player. Nurak studied at the Tokmok Cultural and Educational College, worked at the district House of Culture, and successfully participated in republican folk art competitions. Since 1985, he has been a soloist of the "Kambarcan" ensemble of the Kyrgyz State Philharmonic.
Nurak Abdrakhmanov's creative activity develops in three directions: as an author and performer of folk and original songs, as well as kyuu for the komuz, kyl-kyyak, and temir komuz, and as a master craftsman of komuz instruments.
His komuz kyuu are distinguished by a modern style, including "Heritage of the Father" ("Ata murası"), "Son-Kel" (lake), "Great Mountains" ("Uluutoolor"), "Caravan of Life" ("Omur kechu"), "Mother's Heart" ("Ene jurogu"), "Naiman Ene" (the heroine of a legend), and others.
Nurak Abdrakhmanov is working on improving the folk komuz, using the personal instrument of the great Karamoldo as a standard. He has opened his own workshop and a school for young komuz players, where he nurtures a new generation in the age-old traditions of folk music.
