Bolush Madazimov (born 1927) — an outstanding komuz player, laureate of the State Prize of Kyrgyzstan named after Toktogul (1989), People's Artist of the Republic (1997).
Bolush was born in the village of Laglan in the Kara-Suu District of the Osh Region. His father, Madazim, was a skilled jomokchu (storyteller) and played the komuz well. With his help, Bolush mastered this instrument at the age of seven. He then studied with local musicians Ismail and Myrzamat. Finally, the young komuz player's development was greatly influenced by Asylbek Eshmambetov and Shekerbek Sherkulov.
In his homeland, Bolush Madazimov created the ensemble of komuz players "Toguz Kayryk" and conducts individual lessons with young musicians. In 1978, he participated in the concert program of the International Symposium of Folklorists in Samarkand (Uzbekistan), where delegates highly praised Bolush Madazimov's brilliant performance of the kuy "Syngan Bughu" by Karamoldo and "Kara Ozgey" by Niyazaly.
Madazimov's repertoire includes over 100 kuys, including "Ak Bakai," "Sarynji-Bekey," "Bekarstann Taychy," "Myrza Uul Menen Aksatyn," and "Parizat" (names). More than twenty works, including "Emgek Shany," "Saltanat," "Tilek," and "Osh Kayrygy," composed by the komuz player himself, have been recorded in the golden fund of Kyrgyz Radio.
Bolush Madazimov is particularly fond of kuys with epic and lyrical themes. He gravitates towards a classical performance style, which he fills with deep dramatic content.
