The Ministry of Science, Higher Education, and Innovations plans to discuss the possibility of introducing fines for absence from classes at universities. This information was announced on December 23 during a joint meeting of the committees of the Jogorku Kenesh.

Deputy Dastan Bekeshev (District No. 22) noted that since 2025, the cost of contract education at universities has significantly increased, and penalties for absences are on the horizon.

First Deputy Minister of Science Aibek Chotonov clarified that until 2021, the cost of contracts at universities in Kyrgyzstan had not increased due to an existing moratorium imposed by decree. Previously, before the moratorium was introduced, the increase was about 10% annually. According to him, approximately 90% of expenses are covered by universities themselves, making price increases necessary for improving infrastructure.

“We will consider the issue of introducing fines and will provide a complete response later,” he added.

In response to the deputy's suggestion to abolish such a practice, Chotonov noted that this issue will be studied.
