During the visit, the speaker familiarized himself with the work of the university and received information about current projects. According to the press service of the parliament, he also met with the university's faculty and students.
Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu noted that the National University, which has a 100-year history, is one of the best in the country, and recalled his dreams of enrolling there. He emphasized that support and reforms in higher education should remain a priority.
The speaker reported on his initiative, which led to the creation of two new ministries last year: the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Science, Higher Education, and Innovations.
He stressed that the National University, as the leading higher education institution in the country, must adapt to new conditions and serve as an example for other educational establishments. “Today, specialists who combine theoretical knowledge with practical experience and are proficient in modern technologies are extremely important. We are witnessing the rapid development of artificial intelligence. To effectively utilize these opportunities, it is necessary to develop a bill regulating its application,” he added.
“We cannot surprise the world with the production of Boeing and Airbus planes, but in the future, we can impress it with our talented young specialists with quality knowledge. Therefore, significant reforms are needed at the university. It should be known as an institution focused on modern education and the development of the state language,” noted Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu. He also promised to award 20 students from the Faculty of Kyrgyz Philology scholarships of 20,000 soms and provide financial support of 200,000 soms to two teachers who developed a new methodology for teaching the state language.
During the event, modern technical equipment was handed over to the educational institution. Tilen Omuraliev, who developed an internet portal to support educators, received a modern tablet as a gift.
The meeting was held in a "question-answer" format, during which students and faculty discussed the integration of science and production, as well as a bill aimed at enhancing the status of the National University.
Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu supported the bill, noting that science plays an important role in the economy. “In developed countries, universities successfully implement projects and generate income, while our specialists often have to work abroad. We need to utilize the potential of domestic scientists. We will support bills aimed at improving the status of the National University,” he stated.
Faculty members also appealed for salary increases. The speaker assured that soon the salaries of school teachers would be raised and added that the salaries of university faculty should not be lower: “The salaries of educators should match the salary of the minister. The Minister of Science should propose measures to address this issue.”
