City of Osh. Kyrgyzstan. Kyrgyz Republic.
Osh is the second most populous city in Kyrgyzstan after Bishkek. According to estimates as of January 1, 2012, the population of the city was 516,200 people. The city administration oversees not only the city of Osh but also 11 suburban villages with a total population of 255,600 residents. The population of the city along with its suburbs was estimated to be 1 million residents (as of 2012).
The Osh authorities have begun work on the most grandiose transport project in the southern capital in recent decades — on the night of September 24, the construction of a bridge over the central market began, which will help relieve the city of daily traffic jams.
The overpass bridge will run at a second level above Navoi Street and will directly connect two central avenues of the city — Lenin and Masaliev.
This will help relieve the second largest city in Kyrgyzstan from the daily traffic jams that occur near the central market located along Navoi.
The length of the overpass bridge will be 450 meters. Authorities expect that drivers will be able to pass over it without stopping.
The Osh city administration allocated 500 million soms from the local budget for the construction of the bridge.
The press service of the southern capital emphasized in its statement that the construction of the bridge is not funded by grant money.
“In the last 10 years, the state has not built anything with its own funds; everything has been funded by grants. This project is being built with budgetary funds. This is a very significant project not only for the city of Osh but for all of Kyrgyzstan,” the Osh city hall press service reported.
