Kadamjay - "Holy Place"

.
The emergence of the city of Kadamjay is linked to the beginning of construction in this area of the antimony plant in the metalworkers' settlement in the 1930s.
By 1941, it received the official name Frunze and the status of an urban settlement. In 1992, it was given its current name, which means "holy place." In 2012, Kadamjay became a city and absorbed surrounding settlements, including the district center, the village of Pulgon.

Kadamjay is a city in the Batken region. It is located at the very end of the Fergana Valley, squeezed between the mountains of the Alai Range in the wide gorge of the Ak-Suu River. Kadamjay lies right at the border with Uzbekistan.

Population: 7,732 people (2017)

The symbol of the city is Lake Jidalyk. Located at an altitude of 1,000 meters, 3 kilometers from Kadamjay, it flows from under the mountain. The lake feeds the Kator-bulak stream, and its waters are considered healing. A recreational area has been created at Jidalyk. Swimming is recommended there, especially for skin health. At the slopes of Mount Katrang, a historical and cultural ensemble called "Aziret-Ali" has been established. According to legend, the son-in-law of the Prophet Muhammad left a mark here, which is how Kadamjay got its name.

The name of the city comes from the Kyrgyz words "kadam" — holy and "zhai" — place, meaning holy place, the place where the foot of the prophet stepped.
In winter, it is relatively not cold here. The average temperature in January in the plains is -6 to -10, in the mountainous areas -10 to -13. In summer, in July, the average temperature is +25 to +35 degrees Celsius.

Kadamjay is located on an ancient caravan route, but this route is not the main one. It does not connect with anything, but rather serves as a longer detour from Fergana to the Syr Darya Valley and access to the passes into the Alai Valley.

Currently, more than 15,000 people live in the city of Kadamjay. The city is the small homeland of over 20 representatives of different nationalities. The Kadamjay antimony plant, of global significance, has been and remains the main lever for economic growth not only for the city of Kadamjay but for the entire region and republic.

The main metallurgical plant of the combine is located in the settlement of Kadamjay in the Batken region of Kyrgyzstan, 130 kilometers from the city of Osh and 35 kilometers from the city of Fergana (Uzbekistan). In addition to the metallurgical plant, the combine's production divisions include auxiliary workshops and sections servicing the main production.

The city of Kadamjay is famous for great people such as Heroes of Socialist Labor Aziz Toktobaev, Ivan Kretinin, labor and war veteran Abdinabi Samatov, deputy of the Supreme Council of the Kyrgyz SSR Zamira Tuygunova, analytical chemist, honored figure of industry of the KR and holder of the "Dank" medal Anipa Alymova, Major General of Justice Aitmatova Tursunay, honored teacher of the Kyrgyz Republic Tsoy Tamara Semyonovna, honored doctor of the Kyrgyz Republic Osmonova Farida, and others.

At the foot of Mount Katrang of the Alai Range, on the banks of the Ak-Suu River, is the historical and cultural ensemble "Aziret-Ali," which was built in 1999. According to legends, traces of Aziret-Ali, the son-in-law of the Prophet Muhammad, were left at this place, and in honor of these traces, this place was named Kadamjay.

The recreation area "Jiydelik" is located 3 km from the city of Kadamjay. This area is surrounded by the ridges of the Alai Mountains and is situated at an altitude of 1,000 m above sea level. Water flows into Lake "Jiydelik" from the healing stream "Koturbulak," which is recommended for skin diseases.

The Kadamjay antimony plant was commissioned in 1936. Historically, the plant was the largest in the USSR for the production of metallic antimony and was considered one of the largest in the world in this profile: until 1991, production reached 17,000 tons per year (10% of world production). The products of the industrial complex were represented by 14 types of metallic antimony and its compounds. With the opening of the Kadamjay antimony plant, the USSR abandoned the import of antimony and fully transitioned to its own production. For a long time, the antimony produced at this plant was the world standard for this metal.

1936 - industrial production began after the necessary geological exploration work at the Kadamjay antimony deposit and the completion of work on the construction of a pilot enrichment plant; the first metallic antimony of grade SU-4 was obtained in the USSR.
1942 - the technology for producing antimony grades SU-0, SU-2, SU-1 (higher grades) was mastered.
1943 - production of pentasulfide antimony was mastered.
1950 - production of antimony trioxide was mastered.
1957 - production of high purity antimony of grades SU-000 and SU-0000 was mastered.
1959 - production of sodium thioantimonate (Schlippe salt) was mastered.
1967 - 1991 - significant reconstruction and expansion of the plant's production capacities were carried out, as well as the introduction of effective technologies necessary for processing large volumes of raw materials.
1995 - the plant's products were awarded the international prize "Commercial Prestige" in Paris.

Currently, the design capacity of the Kadamjay antimony plant is 5,400 tons of metal and 1,000 tons of antimony trioxide per year.

In Kadamjay, with the support of the city administration, a local newspaper "Kadamjay-Press" has recently been published.
