During the discussion, Deputy Umbetaly Kydyraiev noted that to improve the environmental situation, it is necessary to include relevant decisions in the city’s General Plan.
He emphasized the importance of considering the wind rose, construction features, and sources of pollution, adding that without political will, it is impossible to achieve a systematic solution to this problem.
The mayor of the capital, Aibek Junushaliev, noted that the city administration monitors international air quality indices daily and analyzes their changes, while the city demonstrates improvements in rankings during windy weather.
He cited major cities such as Beijing, Lahore, and Delhi, emphasizing that even significant investments in ecology do not solve the problem of air pollution. According to the mayor, despite doubts about the accuracy of individual sensors, the authorities continue to consider the published indices to assess the effectiveness of the measures taken.
Junushaliev also added that during the development of Bishkek's General Plan, environmental issues, including the impact of the wind rose, were specifically addressed. Independent foreign specialists were involved to ensure objectivity and impartiality. He reported that about 89% of the proposals developed during the discussions have already been taken into account and are in the process of implementation.
The deputy provided data on the structure of air pollution sources in Bishkek: about 47% of pollution is related to coal heating, 21% to road transport (minibuses and trucks), 15% to industry, and the remaining 17% comes from other sources. He emphasized the need for active gasification as one of the key steps to reduce the level of smog in the capital.
