At the meeting of the committee of the Jogorku Kenesh, Deputy Nilufar Alimjanova voiced concerns regarding the effectiveness of actions taken to reduce air pollution and combat smog in Bishkek.

She raised questions about how realistically the level of smog has decreased, what specific measures have been implemented by the city administration and relevant ministries, and how much funding from the budget has been allocated for these projects.

Alimjanova reminded that the parliament of the VII convocation approved a number of initiatives and programs aimed at improving air quality in the city.

“An interdepartmental commission of 25 specialists was formed, financial resources were allocated, and various projects were implemented. It would be interesting to know how exactly the level of smog has decreased,” the deputy noted.

Daniyar Tөlөgөnov, Deputy Director of “Kyrgyzhydromet,” reported that, compared to 2024, the level of air pollution remains approximately the same. However, according to him, since 2023, air quality has noticeably improved.

He added that many factors influence the situation, including weather conditions, such as a milder winter. The Deputy Director emphasized that the measures taken by the ministries and the city administration are beginning to yield results.

“There is a slight decrease in pollutant emissions. The measures taken are already starting to take effect, but improving air quality is a long-term process that depends on many factors and cannot be resolved instantly,” he explained.

Alimjanova expressed understanding regarding the influence of natural conditions but noted that each initiative described in the resolutions should lead to a real reduction in the level of smog. She also emphasized the importance of having a clear measurement methodology and transparent data.

The deputy requested that detailed written information on this issue be provided to the committee, reminding that in November and December, Bishkek was among the cities with the highest levels of smog for several weeks, which caused a significant public outcry.
