The Ministry of Natural Resources reported on what is being done to improve air quality in Kyrgyzstan.
The press service of the ministry reported that in March 2025, a new composition of the commission was approved, which includes representatives from 25 different ministries and agencies, as well as deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh.
The Ministry of Natural Resources announced a number of measures aimed at improving the state of atmospheric air:
- Increasing the availability of gasification and reducing financial costs for the population. According to the Cabinet's order, homeowners can receive preferential loans for gasification of up to 150,000 soms at an interest rate of 3% per annum (instead of the previous 8%). As a result, more than 51,000 houses in Bishkek are connected to gas, which has led to a reduction in coal consumption by about 100,000 tons;
- In October 2025, a measure was introduced prohibiting the import, sale, storage, and use of bulk coal with a fraction of 0–13 mm in the Chui region and Bishkek. This restriction does not apply to enterprises engaged in heat energy production;
- Active work is underway on state environmental control. Regular raids to protect atmospheric air are conducted across the country. In 2025, 202 protocols were drawn up for exceeding emission standards from vehicles, with a total fine amounting to over 3.7 million soms. Additionally, 450 protocols were issued against economic entities for a total of 9.87 million soms, and 3,795 notifications were sent regarding the need to comply with environmental standards;
- The Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision is participating in the development of the natural-ecological framework of Bishkek, aimed at improving the environmental situation and enhancing the quality of life for local residents.
