Alexandra Solovyova, the UNDP Resident Representative in Kyrgyzstan, emphasized the importance of biodiversity issues in the current context. In her opinion, the country's mountain ecosystems are under threat due to climate change, which negatively affects rare animals such as the snow leopard. She noted that government initiatives and the development of a biodiversity strategy until 2040 are examples of effective cooperation between the state, scientific community, and private sector, contributing to sustainable development and the rational use of natural resources.
“The UN Development Programme in Kyrgyzstan serves as a reliable partner for the government and the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision in this area. We support numerous programs and efforts, including the preparation of the nationally determined contribution to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and the transparency report on climate action,” she added.
Solovyova also pointed out that such a strategic program requires a comprehensive approach aimed at both reducing emissions and adapting to the already occurring climate changes affecting all sectors of the country's economy.
